Non-Lucrative Visa: requirements to obtain it in Spain
Everything You Need to Know to Meet the Requirements for the Non-Lucrative Residence Visa in Spain
The non-lucrative residence visa in Spain is an excellent option for those who wish to live in the country without working. However, obtaining this visa requires meeting a series of specific requirements. These are established in Article 46 of the Regulations of Organic Law 4/2000, approved by Royal Decree 557/2011, of April 20. Below, we explain the most important points you need to consider:
Demonstrating sufficient financial resources
One of the main requirements for applying for a non-lucrative residence visa is to demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to live in Spain without needing to engage in employment. This means you must prove that you have the necessary funds to support yourself and your family during your period of residence.
Minimum amount of money you must have in your bank account
The minimum amount you must demonstrate varies according to the current regulations, but generally, it is established that you need around 30,500 euros for yourself, as the primary applicant. In addition, you will need to show that you have 7,500 additional euros for each family member accompanying you in the application. These funds must be sufficient to cover your and your family’s needs during your stay in Spain.
How to demonstrate possession of financial resources?
To prove your financial resources, several documents can be presented, such as income tax returns, bank statements, or any other official document that demonstrates you have a stable and sufficient income source. In general, these documents must show that you have a steady flow of money, not just a one-time amount in your account.
Does all the money have to be in the same bank account?
It is not necessary for all the funds to be in a single bank account, but you must demonstrate that you have access to the resources. You can distribute the money across multiple accounts or even in accounts held by other family members, as long as you can prove that the money is available and will allow you to meet your needs during your stay in Spain.
Financial resources to bring your family with you
If you want your family to accompany you during your stay in Spain, you must also demonstrate that you have sufficient financial means to cover the needs of your spouse and minor children. The minimum amount for each additional family member is as mentioned earlier (7,500 euros per person). You will need to provide evidence that these funds are available to support your family members.
Having private health insurance
It is essential to have private health insurance that offers full coverage in Spain, with no co-pays, and covers the entire duration of the requested residence. The insurance must be purchased from a Spanish insurance company. This requirement is crucial for your application to be accepted, and you will not have access to the Spanish public healthcare system with this visa.
Other requirements
In addition to the above points, there are other general requirements you must meet, such as not being in Spain illegally, not having a criminal record in Spain or in the countries where you have resided during the last 5 years, and not suffering from diseases that may pose a risk to public health. Additionally, you must pay the fees associated with processing the visa.
