The H-1B visa season for the 2026 fiscal year is about to begin, and we want to share all the relevant information about this important immigration process. As we have done before, we will explain in detail the H-1B Visa and the lottery conducted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
What is the H-1B Visa?
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant permit that allows U.S. companies to hire highly skilled foreign professionals. This visa is specifically designed for occupations that require:
- University Degree.
- Specialized knowledge.
- Experience in fields such as technology, business, engineering, mathematics, and related areas.
Available Quotas
The visa has an initial duration of three years, with the possibility of extending it for up to six years. It is important to mention that there is a strict annual limit:
- 65,000 regular visas.
- 20,000 additional visas exclusively reserved for professionals with a Master’s degree obtained in the United States.

In the previous cycle, we had interesting experiences with Spanish companies:
- Out of two applications submitted, one was selected in the lottery.
- One company successfully obtained H-1B visa approval.
- Another case was not selected in the lottery, but other alternatives were successfully considered.
Key dates for the 2025 Lottery
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has officially announced that the registration period for the 2026 fiscal year will be:
- Start: March 7, 2025.
- End: March 24, 2025.
Application process
The process takes place in three main stages:
- Electronic Registration:

- Employers must register their candidates in the USCIS online system.
- The registration fee is $215 per candidate.
- This payment is mandatory to participate in the lottery.
- Random Selection:

- The USCIS will conduct the lottery at the end of the registration period.
- Results will be announced at the end of March.
- Filing the Petition:

- Those selected will be able to proceed with the formal H-1B petition.
- If approved, the beneficiary can begin working starting October 1, 2025.
