Goodbye to the Golden Visa: What Changes in Investment Residency in Spain?
We tell you everything you need to know about the end of investment residency in Spain
Today, we want to inform you about a significant legislative change related to the investor visa program, known as the Golden Visa.
On December 19, 2024, the Organic Law Project for the Efficiency of the Public Justice Service, which includes the complete elimination of this program, was approved. Although the official publication in the Official State Bulletin (BOE) is pending, we expect it to happen soon.
Effective Date Calendar
It is important to highlight that the new regulation will come into effect three months after its publication in the BOE, which means we anticipate the program will be fully canceled during the first quarter of 2025. Until then, applications can still be submitted as usual.
Key Aspects of the New Regulation
The legislation establishes that:
- Approved authorizations, ongoing applications, and renewals of previously granted permits will continue to be regulated under the framework of Law 14/2013.
- These cases will not be affected by the introduced changes.
Transitional Provision
The regulation includes a transitional provision that protects the rights of those who have already obtained the Golden Visa or have initiated their application before the new regulation comes into effect. This ensures that these cases proceed under the current conditions.
